Needing a strong closed grained wood for this piece, I opted for a piece of Hornbeam, commonly referred to as "Ironwood". The intention was to mimic a large steel sculpture that I observed In Havana, where four rings were welded together. I wanted to create this comparable design, using one piece of wood, rather than making rings for re-assembly. Having the rings reduce in diameter in their descending order added to the moment.
